Are your quotes free?
Yes. Quotes are free and there's no obligation. The quickest way is to send a few photos and a rough measurement by email to info@scmaintenanceco.co.uk or through our quote form, so we can get you a price quickly.
Why do you ask for photos?
Photos let us see the job, the materials involved and the access, so we can get you a price quickly. If anything isn't clear from the photos, we'll ask.
What photos should I send?
A wide shot of the whole area, a couple of close-ups of the damage, and anything that affects access, such as a narrow side gate or steps. A rough measurement helps too.
How do I book a job?
Call 023 8001 7285, email info@scmaintenanceco.co.uk or use the online quote form. Once you're happy with the quote, we'll agree a date with you.
What are your opening hours?
Our lines are open Monday to Saturday, 8am to 8pm. We're closed on Sundays, but you can send photos or a quote request any time and we'll pick it up.
Can you do several jobs in one visit?
Yes. Tell us everything that needs doing, for example a fence post, a patch of plaster and a gutter clear, and we'll quote for it together.
Do you take away the waste?
Yes. Removing and disposing of old panels, posts and other waste from the job can be included in your quote. Just let us know.
Fencing
Should I repair or replace my fence?
If the problem is one or two posts or a few panels, repairing is usually the sensible option. If most posts along the run are rotten or loose, replacing the fence is often better value over time. Send photos and we'll give you an honest view.
What is a concrete spur repair?
A short concrete post set in the ground beside a timber post that has rotted at the base. The timber post is bolted to it, so the fence stands firm again without taking the panels down.
Concrete or timber posts?
Concrete posts don't rot and suit slot-in panels; timber posts look more natural and are easier to fix things to. Our guide to concrete vs timber posts goes through the pros and cons.
Do I need planning permission for a new fence?
Most garden fences up to 2 metres high don't need permission, but the limit is 1 metre next to a road used by vehicles, and rules can differ for listed buildings and some estates. Check the Planning Portal or your council if you're unsure.
The fence is shared with my neighbour. What should I do?
It's best to agree the work and the line of the fence with your neighbour before we start. Your deeds or title plan may show who is responsible for which boundary.
Damp, mould, plastering & decorating
Will the mould come back?
It can if the conditions stay the same. We treat the mould and give practical advice on ventilation and heating, which makes a big difference.
Do you deal with leaks and rising damp?
We treat mould and advise on ventilation. If we see signs of a leak or structural damp, we'll tell you so you can get the right specialist in.
How long before new plaster can be painted?
Fresh plaster needs to dry out fully first, usually days rather than hours depending on thickness and the room. A thinned mist coat is normally the first coat.
Do you supply the paint?
We can, or we can use paint you've already chosen. Mention it when you ask for a quote.
Gutters
How often should gutters be cleared?
It depends on nearby trees. Many homes benefit from a check once a year, usually after the leaves have come down in autumn.
Can overflowing gutters cause damp?
Yes. Water spilling down the outside of a wall can soak through and show up as damp patches inside, so it's worth clearing gutters before you redecorate a damp wall.

Excellent work carried out by SC MAINTENANCE in my garden this week !
And in particular, first class , friendly service by Jonathan, for preparing and installing my new garden gate, and installing concrete spur/ post to my fence to straighten it out.
I do, on this particular occasion knock off one star, purely as nobody turned up to start work on the original date planned , due to staff issues.
This wouldn't normally have been a problem, but would have liked to have been notified that morning , rather than be sat around waiting to find nobody would show up.
Apart from that one gripe, can I recommend Williams team???

The team came to replace a fence for my mother, to remove the old one and take it away. I couldn’t be there that day and mum is 87 so I was keen to be contacted if need be. I need not have worried mum reported a respectful team of men who did an excellent job from start to finish. This is the second time that I have used Will, this time for the outside of my pond and to relay the slabs. They had just started when they came upon a problem meaning they couldn't do what was originally planned. However, Will came up with a solution, got more materials and by the end of the day, I had a great surround on my pond & slabs that didn't move.
I am so pleased with it, and if anything it looks better than what was originally there.
